St. Clair County Community College, Port Huron High School to host 2019 MHSAA basketball quarterfinals

PORT HURON – St. Clair County Community College, along with Port Huron High School, is pleased to announce it will host two Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) basketball state quarterfinals in March 2019.

A Division 3 boys quarterfinal is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12, 2019, and a Division 2 girls quarterfinal is set for Tuesday, March 19, 2019, both in SC4’s Fieldhouse.

The winning boys team will advance to the semifinals at Michigan State University’s Breslin Center on March 14, 2019. The winning girls team will advance to the semifinals beginning March 21, 2019, at Calvin College’s Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“We’re thrilled to bring MHSAA Basketball Quarterfinals to the SC4 Fieldhouse and provide an opportunity for St. Clair Community College to show off its wonderful new building,” MHSAA spokesperson Geoff Kimmerly said. “Basketball Quarterfinals often are among the most highly-attended events of any tournament season, and SC4 provides a great venue for games of this magnitude. Teams and fans will enjoy playing at SC4 as they continue the championship climb.”

Earlier this spring, SC4 was selected by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as the host site for the NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship in March 2020, 2021 and 2022. It is estimated that the tournament will bring in approximately $250,000 to the local community each year.

“This is fantastic news for SC4, Port Huron High School and our entire Blue Water Area community,” said Dale Vos, SC4 director of athletics. “These prestigious postseason tournaments are open to area residents and will bring many new fans to the area. They will have a significant impact on our local economy.”

The SC4 Fieldhouse saw more than 20,000 visitors in academic year 2017-18.
